Earlier this year, Cable and Wireless PLC (C&W PLC) demerged its UK/European operations into a separate company called Cable and Wireless Worldwide PLC. That left C&W PLC holding only the emerging markets telecom operations, including operators in Panama, Macau, Monaco and a number of Caribbean island states. These are now held by a new holding company called Cable and Wireless Communications PLC. As part of this demerger, several obligations were transferred to Cable and Wireless Worldwide.
